An acrostic poem is a poem in which the first letter of each line spells out a word. Let’s write an acrostic love poem for someone we love!
First, let’s write their name or title (like Mommy or Grandma) vertically along the left side of the page.
Now, let’s use each letter to start a line in the poem about why we love them. For example, M could stand for “modern” or “magical” or “most magnificent.”
For younger children, each line of the poem can be a single word — they can think of words for you to write. Older children can write on their own and be more poetic, maybe even including some rhyming words!
If it’s the right time of year, help your child turn their acrostic love poem into a Mother’s Day card for someone maternal in their life. Don’t forget to talk about how nice it feels to spread love on special days and every day!
